The Impatient Fisherman: A deep-dropper's guide to catching fish w/ Capt. Scott Fleischer.

Electric reel on Scott Fleischer's boat

Good Morning! It's 8:15 am and we are leaving the inlet. The ocean is calm and the weather is beautiful. I hope you packed your lunch and seasick meds because there is no turning back now!

Within 7 minutes at 8:23am we've arrived at the first spot of the day. We are in over 300 feet of water, targeting snapper and grouper. The conditions look beautiful with the current running north at about 1kph. Grabbing the electric reel Capt. Scott decides to go with 3lbs. of lead. Now, I don't know if you ever had to reel 3lbs of lead up from the bottom at 300 feet, but it isn't fun; hence the electric reel. The electric reel is essential to any serious bottom fisherman and is essential to the impatient fisherman.

When deep dropping, the bite is fast. The fake anchor keeps us floating above the structure on the ocean floor. If you haven't gotten a bite in the first 60 seconds, then it's time to try a new spot. We simply turn off the electric anchor and move within seconds. Sometimes it takes 5 or 10 different spots before we find the fish and that is where the electric reel comes in. By using the E-Reel you'll be able to fill the icebox faster and more efficient than using a standard reel. This is where you get your monies worth. By 12pm there should be enough meat in the box for you to be satisfied, if not, we keep moving to find more.

Now, I know you want to have some fun; which means fighting big fish. There is always time for that on this 8 hour fishing charter. Standard rods and reels are supplied to learn the proper technique and feeling the power nestled in the deep. Sabiki rigs are the best way to catch live bait once we see the pelicans diving in the distance. Once the bait well is full, it's time! Let's Go!

Depending on what you want to catch, the right rod setup is ready at a moments notice. Sharks, Amber Jacks, Wahoo, King Fish, and Mahi Mahi are just some of the species you'll likely catch using live bait. The best part, you are likely to catch all these species at the same spots we will be catching grouper and snapper.
